Kevin Bakewell grew up in Wingham, purchasing his first truck at 22 in 1983. Kevin worked as an owner driver until he sustained an injury – falling out of the back of a trailer and smashing his knee. This unfortunate accident turned out to be a blessing in disguise, forcing Kevin and his wife, Wendy, to reimagine their future. The couple knew they had to “get bigger or get out”. They decided to expand their fleet and employ other drivers, and Bakewell Haulage was born.
Today, Bakewell Haulage is the second largest business in Wingham and one of the Mid North Coast’s most trusted haulage companies with a total staff of over 50, in excess of 50 trucks both large and small, and 70 trailers.
